Seven Ways to Keep the Kids Entertained

Having children is a joy; having children with you whilst clothes shopping can be much less so. Children easily become bored and distracted and can cause problems from constant whining to even creating havoc within the shop. Being prepared for situations in which your children may be less than enthusiastic about your shopping will allow you to spend ample time finding the best apparel for your needs.

1. Children aged 10 and under can be equally entertained by a variety of kids toys. Bring many small items so that when the children inevitably complain of boredom, you can quickly hand them a different toy. A good idea is to pack along one toy per every 15 minutes you plan to be shopping.

2. Portable snacks like grapes or sticks of cheese can occupy small hands and keep rumbling tummies from interfering with an afternoon of shopping. Make sure that they are in spill proof containers and that you bring moist towels, just in case.

3. Older children no doubt already cart their hand held devices with them wherever they go, but don’t discount the effect these items can have on younger ones too. Consider only allowing young children to use devices such as this during shopping trips or similar excursions.

4. Books, magazines, comics, or colouring pages can keep young ones entertained indefinitely. Shops often have sitting areas that are perfect for young readers. Just be sure to always keep them in your line of vision while they are reading or colouring.

5. Choose shops wisely. There are shops in existence that are kid friendly. Some even encourage children by having televisions, craft tables, or play areas for the young ones while mum does her shopping.

6. Plan your day before you go. If you know that you will spend the bulk of your time at one particular shop, go there first, before the children get tired and cranky. Change shops as often as possible, as the change of scenery is likely to affect young eyes well.

7. Get the children involved in purchasing decisions. Ask for their input, allow them to help you make your fashion choices. Make a game out of who can find the right sizes first or who can get the best priced merchandise. In the end, your day of shopping is as much about spending time with your family as it is about the items you acquire.
